100 People Gain Knowledge of Procedures for Slaughtering Qurban Animals in N. Jakarta

The North Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency (KPKP) held a socialization on the procedures for slaughtering qurban animals and handling qurban meat to 100 mosque caretakers and qurban animal slaughter committees at Yos Sudarso Hall, the local Mayor's Office.

North Jakarta City Secretary's Administration and People's Welfare Assistant, Muhammad Andri expressed that today's socialization is an annual activity, which is a series of government services to the community in carrying out sacrificial services.

"This is the beginning of government service activities, thus people get qurban animals that meet health requirements and the meat distributed to people is safe, wholesome, intact, and halal," he expressed, Tuesday (6/11).

He urged them to maintain hygiene when slaughtering qurban meat, properly disposing of waste, and packing qurban meat, it is not recommended to use single-use plastic bags but to use environmentally friendly shopping bags.

"Hopefully, they (participants) will gain new insights that they may not have had before. Thank you to the collaborators who have supported this activity," he explained.

Last year, the North Jakarta administration succeeded in collecting and distributing more than 150 sacrificial animals, including cows, goats, and sheep.

North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Unang Rustanto explained the socialization presented speakers, namely North Jakarta DMI Chairman, Suwardi and Hadri Latif from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedicine at Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB).

"The material shared includes laws and guidelines for conducting sacrificial services, hygienic handling of qurban animals and meat, procedures for slaughtering and handling waste from slaughtering qurban animals," he explained.

On June 12, a similar activity will also be held at the Ash Sholihin Mosque, North Jakarta with 100 participants.

"Thank you to the Pelindo and Indonesia Power collaborators who have handed over 100 tarpaulins and 100 knives which will later be distributed to mosque caretakers," he added.

He explained his party had also held health examinations on qurban animals at 98 shelters, with a total of 2,862 cows, seven buffalo, 2,386 goats, and 426 sheep.

"We will continue to go to the field until Idul Adha to examine qurban animals and monitor the process of slaughtering animals. Thus, people remain safe and can consume qurban meat healthily," he explained.

The activity above received appreciation from a resident of Tanjung Priok Urban Village, Hasan Bashri (56). He was very happy to gain additional knowledge and insight regarding handling qurban animals.

"It's very positive and useful, during the slaughter we can know which animals are suitable or not, as well as which meat is good," he stated.
